A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to Goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

Duke, Gianna, and Fr. Phil at last week’s Blessing of the Pets.

THIS SUNDAY IS “THE TIMECHANGE!” Remember to Fall Back and enjoy your extra hour of sleep on November 1st.

FOR ALL SAINTS SUNDAY you may want to wear white, which is the color of the day.

PHOTOS OF OUR SAINTS have been posted in the main church by the votive candles. They will remain up through Christ The King Sunday in late November.

ADD YOUR LOVED ONES TO OUR SAINTS WALL any time this month. Affix your printed and trimmed photo to the wall by the votives using the blue painters tape in the adjacent pew. Please leave the tape and scissors for the next person.

FR. PHIL IS HOME LAST WEEK AND THIS WEEK, because a person in his son Brandon’s class tested positive for COVID last week. Brandon tested negative twice this week, but out of an abundance of caution, Fr. Phil will be away from church members for 14 days from his son’s last contact with his classmate, so until Thurs, November 5.

THE CHAPEL WILL BE OPEN all day on Election Tuesday.

A STUDY ON THE BOOK OF PHILIPPIANS continues this Tuesday afternoon at 2 PM by Zoom.

OUR THURSDAY BOOK GROUP is still open for participants. We are reading Correspondence 2, 3, 4, and 5 in “Letters from a Skeptic.” The reading is quick. We meet at 2pm on Thursday by Zoom.

GREENS MARKET – LAST CHANCE! Greens market orders are due this morning. Thank you for supporting the Saint James Greens Market. Call Libby Dinwiddie to make a telephone order: 734-775-8009.

THE MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR MARJORIE TREADWELL will be streamed on our church Zoom account this Saturday, Nov 7, at 11am. Use: tinyurl.com/sjgi-zoom or the Zoom link on our webpage.

CHRISTNET SHELTER EMERGENCY!  Downriver homeless people have ONE option for an overnight warming shelter—ChristNet. In the past, ChristNet has sheltered the homeless in churches staffed by parishioners, but COVID-19 has forced ChristNet to make different arrangements. For this reason, the costs of PPP, extra staffing, extra space, renovations and motel accommodations to maintain social distancing for the homeless, will add up to $150,000 in additional costs this winter. ChristNet’s existence is threatened by this shortfall. Between our General Fund and Fr. Phil’s Discretionary Fund, Saint James has donated $700 to the cause. To make a direct donation to help the homeless survive this challenging winter, use this link: christnetservices.org/donate/ or call (734) 287-8890.

AN EXTRA $20.00 will be donated to ChristNet if you take a ”virtual test-drive” from a local car dealership through this link: d4ur.com/DBBYK

THE OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED TUESDAY because Saint James is a polling place for the elections and we expect the hallways to be packed with people. We’ll be open on Wednesday at the usual time.

WE ARE IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS to help spread mulch in the garden beds around the church and in the memorial garden beds. Weather permitting, we are planning to accomplish this on Saturday November 7th starting at 1:30pm. The rain date, and also if we don’t finish on Saturday, is Sunday November 8th at noon. If you can help, please notify Pete Jett 734-552-2274 or Lois Zook 734-223-4545 in advance. Please bring rakes & gloves. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK☺

SCRIP GIFT CARDS WILL BE AVAILABLE for limited ordering this holiday season.  This is a “safe” and easy way to do your Christmas shopping.  Order forms and the extensive list of retailers are located on the information table in the hallway.  Only TWO order will be placed this year:  Sunday, November 29 and on Sunday, December 6.  Give your order to Lynn Blanks on one of these designated Sundays or you may give your order to Colleen in the office by Friday, December 4..  Make checks payable to St. James SCRIP.  NO ADDITIONAL ORDERS will be made after December 6. So act early!
