Update From The Treasurer If you have ever donated special items like memorials, or to the Fun Run or The Wish List we want to say, Thank You! Your gifts make a great difference as they allow us to extend our reach and mission beyond the norm. Beginning on January 1 of this year all such tax-deductible donations will be categorized separately on your church statement so you can keep track of them. Since pledged funds are relied upon to support our day-to-day operations, special gifts do not count toward fulfillment of one’s pledge. If you have any questions about this or anything related to our finances, please contact us at any time: treasurer@saintjamesgi.net or 734-676-1727.
150th Anniversary LOGO Contest – We’re coming up on a hugely important birthday for our church — our 150th (1868-2018)! This September we will kick off 12 months of dedications, celebrations and commemorative events, and you can help. We’re looking for a beautiful logo that can be used throughout the year to tie everything together. The logo should look good when printed small (a little larger than a quarter) and be simple enough to be added anywhere. It will appear on church stationery and other printed documents. It will be printed on memorabilia and maybe even stamped onto a coin. Submit your idea by May 25 to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net and you could win a free logo-emblazoned item!

Rummage Thanks
I just wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you for your help and participation in the St. James Spring 2017 Rummage Sale. Even though the first sale day was cold and rainy all day long, shoppers still came out in droves. The rummage sale has truly evolved into a community wide ministry from the very first load of rummage that is donated to sharing fellowship and each other’s company throughout the work days as well as enjoying lunch together. The ministry continues into the sale days where shoppers are greeted by workers with smiles and caring words. I am so proud of all of us for the work we accomplished in so little time. Acts of kindness make God smile, and I was able to witness those firsthand through each of you.
A special thank you to Linda Kurth, Norma Smereka and Liz Hartley for all their hard work in our kitchen and those who provided the delicious main courses and desserts. Those that helped with cleanup were amazing! The church was put back in order and set up for a memorial service in record time. I would also like to especially thank Bernie Vandenberg for his tireless work behind the scenes.
Sharon Metz, Rummage Co-Chair

Thanks to Everyone who prepared and served the Easter Saturday Meal at the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen on April 15th. Our menu consisted of sweet, delicious, tender ham donated by David & Judy Christie. Everyone had a generous portion! Homemade Cheesy Potatoes, a Garden Salad, Dinner Rolls with butter and lots of brightly colored Easter Eggs rounded out the meal! Sugar Cookies with sprinkles were baked and bagged, two to a person, by dear Sharon Metz! Our guests were really happy and gave the meal rave reviews! The colored Easter Eggs and sugar cookies were a rare and greatly appreciated treat!!!
We had a wonderful crew for both the cooking and serving shifts! Beth Holiday & Paul Primeau and Christine Davis brought all of their hardworking kids! Everyone’s favorite UPS man Ron Martinez came again! Kim Faistenhammer, Kathy Toth, Sharon & Phil Metz, Carol Nankervis and her friend Hank, Barry & Lynda VanEnglen, Julie Rudzienski, and Glenda Burton, a new friend in my life, all saw what needed to be done and jumped right in! Frank & I truly felt lifted up by all these dear friends! It was a GOOD day!! Thank you ALL for your help and for being Christ’s hands, voice, and love! As He said… “What you do for these least of mine, you do for Me.” Can we do any less for our Dear Lord Who gave ALL for us? With love always, Amy & Frank Kohair
BIKE DAY: Be part of the whole.
Those of you who took part in the spring Rummage Sale witnessed “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” If you should take part in Beaumont Children’s Bike Day in support of children with disabilities you will once again witness “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” You can learn more about this worthy cause by looking up “Beaumont Bike Day” on your computer or smart phone. All donations collected in May and June will help purchase adaptive bikes for these children. If you wish to give a donation by check please make it payable to Children’s Miracle Network, be sure to add “Bike Day” on the check’s memo line, and either mail it to Saint James or give it to Krista in the office. All checks are tax deductible. Questions? Call David Hartwell at 313 318-9009.

🎵 🎶 🎶🎵 MUSIC NOTES 🎵🎶🎶 🎵
If you have been on the fence about joining bells or vocal choir, it’s a great time to start! We will be starting fresh with new rep and learning musicianship skills, so swing on by and make music with us! Please let me know if you plan to attend! The St. James Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30PM, and the St. James Adult Choir rehearses Thursdays at 7:30PM. The children’s choir meets after the 10AM service. All are welcome! Please consider joining in the music at St. James, we have lots of excellent programming this year. If you have reservations about joining that I can smooth over, or even just want to chat and learn some more about music, I’m always happy to talk! I’m easily reached at music@saintjamesgi.net.
This morning’s musical point of interest: To prep our ears for this Saturday’s music event, all of the music this morning at 10AM, with the exception of the hymns, consists of music from the 20th and 21st centuries. Enjoy the bold colors that these composers can create! The music you hear at communion in particular is very atonal, yet beautiful because of this quality.
Stay tuned for upcoming music events in the area:
May 20th, 7:30 PM: Join us for our final music event of the year in Galloway Hall as the Noise-To-Signal Ensemble comes to St. James for a rousing performance of 20th and 21st century music for woodwinds and piano! Note: the date has changed from our original recital schedule.
A Children’s Choir (K-5) meets on Sundays after the 10am service. Talk to Jill Robinson (robinsonjill25@yahoo.com) or Bobby to find out more.
