Lettuce, Kale, and Radishes, Oh My!  Carol and Mike Johnson have an overabundance of these delicious vegetables, and will have them for the taking after both services this Sunday.  Enjoy the harvest!

RED is the Color of Pentecost. No pressure, but it can be fun to wear red for Pentecost Sunday, June 4th, as we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit!

INQUIRER’S CLASSES are for anyone who wants to know more about the Episcopal Church & Saint James’, and are especially helpful for newer members of the congregation. Get all your questions answered, get a tour of the church, learn the history of the Episcopal Church and Saint James – all in a three week class. Classes begin at 7pm on Tuesdays, June 6, June 13, and June 20. Can’t come to one? Come to the others! We gather in the library across from the office.

Baptisms  Pentecost Sunday, June 4th, is a wonderful festival day for baptisms. To inquire about a baptism, speak to Fr. Phil or call the church office.

Walk to End Hunger at The CROP Walk On Sunday June 4th at St. Thomas Lutheran Church.  The walk begins at 1pm.  All proceeds go to Church World Service (CWS) to help end hunger.  If you would like to walk or sponsor a walker, please see Jane Colwell or Sue Lowery in Galloway Hall after our service.  You also can call Jane at 734-612-1222 or Sue at 675-0417.  Pre-registration is not required.

The Office is closed for the celebration of Memorial Day on May 29th.

Please Join Us on Saturday June 10 for the 4th Annual Detroit River Cruise hosted by the Men’s Ministry Group.  The cost for an adult ticket is $20 and children under 18 can ride free when accompanied by an adult.  There will be a service of Holy Communion in Bishop Park (Wyandotte) at 5:30 pm and our Diamond Jack boat will depart at 7 pm for a two hour cruise on the lower Detroit River.  Dinner is complimentary and adult beverages and soft drinks can be purchased on the boat.  Tickets will be available Sundays after both services or through the church office.

Graduate Recognition Sunday has been moved to June 11th. Please let the office know if you are graduating (from high school or anything!) so we can include you.

Sunday, June 11 Will Be The Last Day Of Sunday School.  On that day, the Sunday School children will be hosting a bake sale with proceeds to help the children at El Hogar in Honduras.  El Hogar is a home and school for homeless street children and children of extremely poor families.  Founded by our own late Connie deBeausset, El Hogar has raised and educated thousands of children over the years.  Please bring your appetite and dollars to Galloway Hall on June 11.

150th Anniversary LOGO Contest – We’re coming up on a hugely important birthday for our church — our 150th (1868-2018)! This September we will kick off 12 months of dedications, celebrations and commemorative events, and you can help. We’re looking for a beautiful logo that can be used throughout the year to tie everything together. The logo should look good when printed small (a little larger than a quarter) and be simple enough to be added anywhere. It will appear on church stationery and other printed documents. It will be printed on memorabilia and maybe even stamped onto a coin. Submit your idea by May 25 to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net and you could win a free logo-emblazoned item!

Islandfest Is Looking For Volunteers to help with exhibitor check-in, the information booth, ID check and wristband sales, the parade, and clean up. IslandFest is this coming weekend: June 2, 3, & 4.  To sign up visit www.islandfestgrosseile.com.

We Move To The Chapel for our 10am service beginning Sunday, June 18.

Do You Enjoy The Time Of Fellowship After The 10am Service?  Sign up to host a week. Hosts do simple set up and clean up, and provide a simple snack.

Vestry Minutes are always available on the bulletin board outside the main office. Vestry members wear blue name tags if you have comments or questions.

Open Office Hours  Fr. Phil is available for appointments throughout the week for meetings of any length. 🎵 🎶 🎶🎵  MUSIC NOTES  🎵🎶🎶 🎵

The St. James Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30PM, and the St. James Adult Choir rehearses Thursdays at 7:30PM. The children’s choir meets after the 10AM service. All are welcome! Please consider joining in the music at St. James, we have lots of excellent programming this year. If you have reservations about joining that I can smooth over, or even just want to chat and learn some more about music, I’m always happy to talk! I’m easily reached at music@saintjamesgi.net.

This morning’s musical point of interest: All the music this morning, from hymns to organ music and even the choir anthem, come from Great Britain! Enjoy the changing styles and sounds as we hear music from the 16th century all the way up to the 20th century! Of particular note is the choir anthem this morning, a frequently performed piece regarded as one of the “Greatest Hits” of the Anglican Church. The text, written by Caroline M. Noel, details the life, ministry, symbolism, and ascension of Jesus in a very poetic and metaphorical manner. Vaughan Williams deftly sets the text to a rousing tune in E Dorian.
